So you are interested in having an allotment at Swiss Cottage?
Our friendly community based allotment has proved so popular over the years that we are almost full. This situation changes almost monthly so think ahead, drop us an email with your details and we will add you to the waiting list or if we have a vacancy, we will offer to show you around.
Please read the rules to having a plot here:
What does it cost to have an allotment at Swiss Cottage Allotment Association.
We have had to introduce a water charge to cover the cost of supplying water to the stand pipes dotted around the site. The fee for each plot holder is determined by how much water was used the previous year. So this water charge will go down if we all use less water out of the taps and harvest more rain water from roofs etc. For the 2026 year the new water charge will be £16 for a full plot and £8 for a half plot. This will be paid when your plot fees are paid in January. Plot holders are not permitted to water direct from the taps, only fill water butts.
We have full plots and half plots. As of 2025 the annual plot rents are £25 for a half plot and £45 for a full plot. These rents are due each January. We are the cheapest for miles around. If you are of the state pension age and have a full plot, you will have a reduced rent of £25. The OAP rate is only for a full plot.
There is a non refundable charge of £10 for the gate access and a £50 clean up deposit for a full plot and £25 for half plot. These payments are paid once only when you take your plot on. The clean up deposit will be refunded if you give your plot up and the site manager agrees that it is in a well cultivated state.
For example, if you want to take on a full plot, you will pay;
£45 - rent (annually), £10 - gate payment (one payment on application), £50 - clean up deposit (one payment on application), £18 water charge (annually). Then you pay £45 each January.
We are now rolling out electronic key fobs. 1 issued to the person named on the allotment agreement, 2nd fobs are £10 (if needed) and replacement fobs are £20 if lost.
What do I get for my money? I hear you say...
- We have an onsite shop open 10-12 Saturday and Sunday. Come in and say "Hi" or seek out advice on growing your veg.
- We have an onsite toilet.
- We have access to manure delivered by a farmer - see site notice board outside the shop.
- We have a secured site where you will feel safe and have a key fob to access the site.
- We are a friendly gardening community.
- We have easy car parking adjacent to the plots.
- You will have a plot of land where you can grow fruit and vegetables for you and your family. Food tastes so much better when it's not been treated or sprayed with pesticides etc.
- It's good for your Mental Health! Remember Covid and lockdowns? Allotments were allowed to stay open as everyone was socially distanced.
